"Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure Shelter”

GHTC will be hosting homeless adults
from September 7 to November 6

4:45pm to 5:25 pm

CARITAS

Congregations Around Richmond Involved To Assure Shelter was organized in the early 1980's to respond to the huge unmet need for emergency shelter for homeless adults in the cold winter months. With its name derived from the Latin word for charity, today CARITAS is the largest emergency shelter program in our community. More than 170 faith communities provide over 37,000 nights of shelter.

Our congregation-based model mobilizes thousands of volunteers annually.

Grace and Holy Trinity continues to support the CARITAS Program by opening the doors daily to provide space for intake and a warm dry place to for the men to wait for transportation to the evening sleeping site.

CARITAS is a community-based organization enabling member congregations to provide shelter and hospitality to homeless people in the Richmond metropolitan area.

CARITAS is the largest community shelter program in the Richmond area.  Our year-round Single Adult Program provides more than 20,000 nights of shelter to nearly 1,000 different men and women.

CARITAS is a massive volunteer effort organized by the faith community.  More than 20,000 volunteers participate in CARITAS every year.

CARITAS is a regional response to the emergency needs of homeless people.  Over 150 congregations are involved in CARITAS, representing the city of Richmond, Henrico County, Chesterfield County, Goochland County, and Hanover County.
