EDUCATION
The Mission of Education at Grace and Holy Trinity is to offer a lifelong learning environment in which we are inspired and strengthened as disciples of Jesus Christ through Scripture, Reason, and Tradition.
Studying the scripture and using the Prayer Book
Instilling a sense of stewardship (time - talent - treasure)
Exploring how to live “grounded in Christ” in a changing an challenging world

9:00 to conclusion of the 10:00 am service
during the summer schedule
The Nursery Department
Our Nursery serves infants - 3 year olds
The Nursery, located on the second floor in the Christian Education wing (room #2), is available for children infants up to 3 years of age.
Our loving attendant, Mrs. Mary Crumpler, has been an important part of our Parish for many years. She is assisted by Courtney Thompson and Emily Mazich, VCU students, who have years of experience caring for children. Our Nursery is available for members and visitors of the congregation and any guests from 8:45 am until the conclusion of the 10 am service on every Sunday morning during the summer.

What is Godly Play?
Good question…it is not play as we know it - it is a liturgical curriculum modeled after the Montessori approach to education. It includes worship, prayer, singing, scripture story time, play, and a simple snack of Gold Fish and apple juice. The children then join their family for Holy Communion. The leaders are trained in the Godly Play method.
Who teaches Godly Play? Christian Education/Youth VCU interns will lead the class under the supervision of Jo Blandford, Director of Christian Education.
Who can attend Godly Play?
Any child 3 - 7 years of age, whose parents attend the 10 am service and think their child would, today, be more comfortable in this environment than in church.

Children’s Christian Formation
Please take some time to see what we are doing in Sunday School this fall. We have a new curriculum in place, and we are approaching this ministry with new vision. Our hope is to transform Sunday School into a time of worship, fellowship, service and proclamation – a time when adults engage their younger sisters and brothers in Christ about God and our place in God’s world.
Please take time to introduce yourself to (and thank) our Sunday School teachers for the 2009-2010 program year. They are:
Sunday School Superintendent: Kathleen Thomas
Nursery Staff: Courtney Thomson, VCU Intern with assistants Candice Hornbeck and Emily Mazich
Pre-School: Dawn McNamara, Nina Gentry
Kinder – 1st grade: Susan Hankins, Allison Monroe
2nd and 3rd grades: Miles and Carrie Hoge
4th and 5th grades: Mary Cay and Frank Kollmansperger, Stella and Darrell Alexander

There Will be Three Adult Sunday School Offerings
Each Sunday
- Bible Study will meet in the library. They will begin the Gospel of John on the 13th so this will be a great time to join this group.
Adult Forum will meet in the chapel.
On Sundays in January, we welcome Dr. Mark Biddle, Russell T. Cherry Professor of Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond, to Grace and Holy Trinity.
Coffee and Conversation will meet in the Parish Hall. Linger after breakfast and over coffee. This unstructured time of fellowship allows folks to catch up with one another and make new friends.
On Tuesday, January 19th all the men of the parish are invited to an initial meeting to kick off a Men’s Fellowship Group. We will meet in
the Parish Hall at 6:00pm. That evening we will have outdoor grills lit and ready for you to bring whatever you’d like to cook. Side dishes, salad and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided (if you’d prefer to bring your own beverage, please feel free). We will eat together and talk about options for the formation of small groups. We will also talk about the possibility of continuing this gathering on a monthly basis.
