Lenten Formation Offerings

Daily Morning Prayer
Monday – Friday | During Lent
Thursday, February 15 – Friday, March 29

Starting Thursday, February 15th, a daily service of Morning Prayer with Holy Communion from the reserve sacrament will be held on weekdays at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Each service will be led by two officiants, including one of our clergy or staff and a lay parishioner. If you would like to serve as an officiant, please sign up using the signup sheet located at the Connect Table. Training and support will be provided.

Lenten Book Discussion
Wednesdays | 9:00 am

For our Lenten observance, you are invited to join The Rev. Greg Bezilla and Director of Formation Kate Given in reading Meeting Jesus At The Table: A Lenten Study by Cynthia M. Campbell and Christine Coy Fohr. This book takes a look at the meals Jesus shared with others in the Gospels, and provides a chance to think about the importance of hospitality and community around our own tables. Copies are available for $5 and may be purchased at any point throughout Lent. Following the Lenten Daily Morning Prayer on Wednesdays, we will gather from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. following worship to discuss the ideas presented in the book.

Reconciliation of a Penitent

The clergy are available for spiritual counseling and for the rite of Reconciliation. In the Episcopal tradition, Reconciliation of a Penitent (as defined in the Book of Common Prayer) “is the rite in which those who repent of their sins may confess them to God in the presence of a priest, and receive the assurance of pardon and the grace of absolution.” It is often referred to as “private confession.”

Parish Forum on Church Breakfast: So many of us love our long-standing tradition of a delicious, hot breakfast on Sunday mornings. Since we returned after the church’s closure during the pandemic, breakfast has faced various challenges. The Rev. Duane Nettles and the Breakfast Crew held a conversation on Sunday, March 5th at 9:30 a.m. focusing on the many questions that are related to Sunday breakfast: How should we continue it? What is the purpose? How do we staff it with enough volunteers? What about folks who may not attend Sunday School or worship? No decisions have been made at the forum or prior to the forum. The open conversation was hopeful and we heard various perspectives and insights from the Breakfast Crew, parishioners, and staff. Out of this conversation, the Breakfast Crew will discuss a sustainable way forward.

Parish Form with Rev. Charles Joy: In February The Rev. Charles Joy shared about an epiphany event that initiated  a major change in the direction of his life, bringing him to seminary, ordination, and eventually life as a priest in the Episcopal Church.

Parish Form about St. Andrew’s School: The Parish Forum topic in January was given by representatives from St. Andrew’s School on Sunday, January 8th regarding ways that Grace & Holy Trinity can continue to support our neighboring Episcopal school. St. Andrew’s School is a tuition-free Episcopal school, in Oregon Hill, focused on the whole child. Its vision is to create an environment that empowers students and their families to achieve success in their lives.

Parish Form with Rev. Dr. Sarah Kye Price: Thank you to The Rev. Dr. Sarah Kye Price for discussing the history, meaning, and liturgical symbolism of Advent during our Parish Forum on Sunday, December 4th, 2022.

Parish Form with Associate Rector Paul Evans: On Sunday, November 6th, Associate Rector Paul Evans shared about his faith journey and call to ordained ministry during the parish forum in between the 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services in the Parish Hall.

Paul discussed his Summer 2008 pilgrimage during which he sailed from Bodo, Norway to Cork, Ireland on a 44 foot schooner that included a stop at Iona, the small island in the Inner Hebrides where St. Columba brought Christianity to the British Isles in 563 A.D.
